Platform Space Presents – Jochen Holz / Glassblower

19th—21st April 2014

Platform Space is pleased to announce the first in a series of monthly exhibitions, housed at North and South Ideas Gallery. The two-day show that takes place on Saturday 20th April and Sunday 21st April, introduces new works by London-based glassblower Jochen Holz.

Since graduating from the Ceramics and Glass Program at the Royal College of Art in 2003, Jochen acquired an outstanding reputation for his distinctive glassworks, which he creates using the lampworking technique. From years of collaborating with acclaimed designers and through realising his own works, he gained the confidence to allow ideas and shapes to emerge spontaneously during the process of making. His design is lead by intuition, experience and chance, and thus results in truly inimitable objects. The exhibition features a range of commissioned carafes and vases in addition to individual sculptural pieces, which give a comprehensive insight into the elaborate work and unique mindset of Jochen Holz.

Platform Space is a monthly exhibition, curated by Petra Schmidt, which takes place on the first weekend of each month. Each exhibition showcases the work of a skilful designer or craftsman in a solo show, housed at North and South Ideas Gallery on Highgate High Street, London. Mobile Platform is the event-related addition to the Platform Space: the foldable workshop and gallery for public spaces engages artists and designers as performers. The first exhibition finishes with a concluding event on Sunday 21st April, 5.30 – 7 pm. With this occasion there will be a screening of Heart of Glass, a film by Werner Herzog.
